Darien Boat Club member and employee Lauren Keena is hosting a Safe Boating Class for teenage boaters on Saturday, June 23, from 10am to 1pm. The class is Lauren’s take-action program for the Girl Scout Gold Award- the highest award earned by in Girl Scouts. This class is presented with the Darien Marine Police and taught by peer instructors. At the event young boaters ages 12 to 18 will get to learn about general safe boating rules and regulations, understand the zero tolerance rules for boating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, learn about vessel operation, play a vessel operation simulation game, and try their hand at operation on an actual vessel (kept on a dock at all times). Participants can spend as much or as little time at each station as they wish and flyers will be available to take home. The goal of the class is to educate young boaters and establish safe boating habits so that our waters can be safer for boaters of all ages! There will be no charge for this event! If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Lauren at laurenkeena@gmail.com. Thank you!
