Art on View at Darien Library: Paintings by Linda George

From October 3 to November 9, the "Art on View" at Darien Library will be a collection of abstract paintings by Linda George. The exhibit will be on display in the Library’s Art Gallery, which is located on the Lower Level.

Ms. George is an award-winning artist, whose works have been displayed in numerous venues in Fairfield County. Her paintings are in many collections from New England to California.

For many years, the artist explored landscape and sill-life, with works ranging from realism to impressionism, however, her main concern has always been color.

Said the artist, "For this show at the Library, I thought it would be interesting to show the last few paintings that I had completed in my former style --some form of impressionism-- and then the quantum leap to abstraction about five years ago. Much to my surprise this transition was not as difficult as I had imagined. Perhaps the viewer will see some clues to this change that I, the painter, am too close to the work to see." Ms. George names among her major influences the works of Bonnard, Diebenkorn and DeKooning.

The Art Gallery is located on the Library's Lower Level.
