Darien Library’s Fall Book Discussion Series will begin on Tuesday, September 13 at 7 p.m. The theme of this fall’s series is “Home and Away.” The discussion book on September 13 will be The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. Library staff members will lead the discussion.
Set during a remarkable time, the same period as Ernest Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast and The Sun Also Rises, Paula McLain’s The Paris Wife brilliantly captures the voice and heart of Hadley Hemingway as she struggles with her roles as a woman—wife, lover, muse, friend, and mother—and tries to find her place in the intoxicating and tumultuous world of Paris in the twenties.
“It’s an imaginative homage to Hadley Richardson Hemingway, whose quiet support helped her young husband become a writer, and it gives readers a chance to see the person Hemingway aspired to be before fame turned him into something else.” Donna Rifkind, The Washington Post
