that was killed this past summer in nearby Milford Connecticut.

Bill Betty, a Mountain Lion lecturer, will cover all aspects of their behavior from reproduction to predation, from life span to habituation.   Sport hunting, puma pets and the various theories as to why and how Mountain Lions are reoccupying the Northeast, will be explor.

His narrative of close encounters with what he calls “nature’s perfect predator” gives compelling testimony about the presence of these animals in our region.   Many “show and tell times”, such as a skull, tracking maps, a motion detection camera, cougar lures, scat samples and various books will be available for attendees to examine.

Bill is a very knowledgeable speaker with more than dozen sightings and encounters in Rhode Island over the last forty years with America’s most shy and secretive animal.

The Mountain Lion, also known as the cougar, panther, puma or catamount, lives in many different habitats, from deserts to humid coastal forest—from sea level to 10,000 foot elevations.

In North America, cougars were nearly driven to extinction in the East, limited to Florida and a dozen states in the West.   Now, the big cats are making a comeback in the Northeast!  Most recently, sightings have been reported in Kent, CT and Lewisboro NY.

The Darien Nature Center is taking reservations in advance, as space is limited.  To reserve your seat, call the Nature Center at 655-7459 or come by the office at 120 Brookside Road, Darien. The cost for the presentation is $10.00 per person.  This program is not recommended for
