Fender Bender Leads To Immigration Enforcement Case In Darien: PD
The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement department took away the suspect.

DARIEN, CT — A minor parking lot fender bender in Darien last week led to one of the drivers, a Bridgeport man, being hauled off by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, according to Darien police.
Nelson Berganza, 48, of Glenville Avenue, and another driver were involved in a minor crash in the parking lot of Trader Joe's on the Post Road in Darien at about 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 14.
Officers were called to the scene and soon discovered that Berganza had "an outstanding bench warrant for failing to appear in court in regards to an arrest by the Stamford Police," Darien authorities stated.

Berganza was taken into custody and charged with first-degree failure to appear.
"During the booking process it was determined that Berganza had an immigration detainer by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)," wrote Darien police.

Berganza eventually posted bond and subsequently was turned over to the custody of an ICE agent.
As for the Stamford warrant for which he was initially charged in Darien, Berganza is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Feb. 25.
