First Selectman Stevenson: Darien Faces State Education Aid Cuts
Gov. Dannel Malloy's latest state budget proposal hammers many of Connecticut's towns.

DARIEN, CT — The town is facing the complete elimination of education aid from the state next year, under the latest budget proposed by Gov. Dannel Malloy on Monday.
Darien was already grappling with a drastic reduction in state education funds this year - as were other affluent communities in the state - to help Connecticut's efforts to balance its huge deficits.
In a flurry of Twitter posts, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson warns Darien residents of what the state's fiscal woes will mean to the town:

Darien is slated to receive just over $400,000 in education aid from the state this year, down from more than $700,000. Next year, that figure would get zeroed out.
As for Darien's pension obligation, Gov. Malloy is seeking to shift hundreds of millions of dollars in pension costs onto the backs of the state's municipalities.
