Gas Expansion Project To Impact Several Darien Roads: Police
The months-long project is set to begin on Monday, April 9.

DARIEN, CT — Utility company Eversource will begin a major natural gas expansion project in Darien on Monday, April 9, for which construction is expected to last through the spring and summer, according to Darien police.
Several roads in town will be impacted during the work, which could lead to traffic delays. The first roads to be impacted are Ledge Road and Greenwood Avenue; then later in the project Hoyt Street (Route 106) from Greenwood Avenue (north to the New Canaan town line) and West Avenue (from the area of Brown Street east towards Leroy Avenue).
"Please be advised that contractors, working on behalf of Eversource Energy, are about to embark on a significant natural gas expansion project in the Town of Darien," wrote police in a statement. "The roadways affected are listed above and the project will continue throughout the spring and summer months.

"On Monday, April 9th, 2018, work will commence on Ledge Road at US 1 and work up towards the town transfer station and Darien Public Works garage."
Work will begin at 7 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. during the project.

"Also on Monday, April 9th, 2018, work will also commence on Greenwood Ave. between Camp Ave. and Hoyt Street (Route 106)," the department continued. "This will require the temporary closure of Greenwood Ave. during the normal work day. Only residents of Greenwood Ave. and guests of residents will be allowed access and exit during the work day. Non-residents and all through traffic will use Camp Ave. and Hoyt Street to move through the area. The daily closure of Greenwood Ave. is expected to last a week to ten days. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times."
Darien Police Officers and Traffic Agents "will be assigned to these projects to assist with facilitating safe and orderly traffic flow through and around the affected areas."
All motorists should plan trips through the affected areas accordingly and consider alternate routes whenever possible.
"We thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience as this natural gas expansion project moves forward. Further traffic advisories and updates will be issued as required."
