Go On A Virtual Narrated Tour Of Darien's Great Island

The town recently posted a narrated tour of the property to give residents a sense of what Great Island is all about.

DARIEN, CT — While the town is in the process of making its purchase of Great Island final, it recently posted a narrated tour of the beautiful property.

The 15-minute tour is conducted by Jennifer Leahy of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, and offers a glimpse into what makes the island unique.

The town recently entered into a contract to purchase the 60-acre island for $103 million. The island was originally bought by the Ziegler family in 1880's, and has remained in the family ever since, most recently controlled by the Steinkraus branch of the family.

On June 6, First Selectman Monica McNally gave a presentation on preliminary ideas for the island, ranging from educational uses to recreation.

The Board of Selectman and Board of Finance both approved the purchase recently. The Representative Town Meeting is expected to vote June 27 ahead of a June 28 approval deadline.

The town will be able to continue its due diligence on the property until Aug. 6.
