Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Connecticut

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for all of southern Connecticut by the National Weather Service in advance of the expected arrival of the coldest weather of the season. Record lows are possible Friday night, the weather service states. A Freeze Warning has been issued for the coast of New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties.

The National Weather Service says, "An arctic front will pass through the region Late Thursday Night bringing the coldest air of the season to the area Friday into Saturday. Record low temperatures are possible Friday Night, with temperatures falling into the lower to mid 20s for the urban corridor and coast and teens across the interior. This will end what is left of the growing season."

The Freeze Warning is is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday for Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex and Southern New London counties. A Freeze Warning means below freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, the weather service says.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote, "A chilly breeze all day today with sun developing. Temps will only be in the 40s. The severe chill is still on for Friday. Find your gloves & a scarf before Friday. Check the oil tank in the basement too! Dry & chilled for Veterans’ Day Saturday! Have a great day!!!!!"

Fox 61 Meteorologist Matt Scott said, "Get ready for the first Arctic blast of the season. Cold highs today are close to norms, getting to 50, as the sun emerges from the clouds and the winds subside. Tonight, under clear skies, temps drop below freezing, so a FREEZE WARNING is in effect for the shoreline. And then......Arctic air moves into the region in time for the weekend, sending temps plunging all day Friday, all the way down to the teens Saturday morning. It's bitter cold for Friday through Sunday. Stay warm, and have a great day!"

Today: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 51. North wind 8 to 11 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 35. North wind around 6 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 35. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph becoming west 12 to 17 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a temperature falling to around 34 by 5pm. Breezy, with a northwest wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 20.

Veterans Day: Sunny, with a high near 39.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47.

Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38.
