Horror in Darien Library: Double Feature for Teens
For those 12 - 18 years old who dare, "Night of the Living Dead" & "Woman in Black" will be shown from 5 - 9 p.m. Oct. 25at Darien Library

A Darien Library announcement (with video trailers below):
This program is for teens aged 12-18.
Let’s face it, October just wouldn’t be October without horror films. Whether it’s Jason Voorhees chasing down the counselors of Crystal Lake, the rage zombies of 28 Days Later, or watching a creepy puppet ride around on a tricycle in SAW, watching scary movies is as much a part of October as the leaves changing colors, or the fact that everything suddenly becomes pumpkin flavored.

Darien Library will be carrying on the tradition by hosting a Scary Movie Double Feature for teens on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 5-9 p.m. in the library’s Community Room, starting with the original 1968 Night of the Living Dead.
Most of the action in Night of the Living Dead centers around our hero boarding up windows, but that’s kind of the beauty of it! It’s one of those so-cheesy-it’s-good sort of movies. The film was made for an estimated $114,000, which wouldn’t even cover World War Z’s latte budget!

There’s no fancy CGI, the blood’s clearly ketchup and some of the actors aren’t exactly what you’d call “professional,” but this was George “The Grandfather of All Zombie Films” Romero’s first foray into the undead. Think about that: If it wasn’t for Romero and this little black and white picture, there’d be no Walking Dead! No Rick Grimes! No Daryl Dixon! No The Governor! Noooooo!
The night will finish with 2012’s The Woman in Black. The film takes place in Edwardian era England. A young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers that a vengeful spirit is terrorizing the locals.
Where Night of the Living Dead is all about putting its brain-loving monsters front and center, The Woman in Black takes a quiet--and therefore much more terrifying--approach. It’s all about creaking stairs, empty rooms, and seriously creepy dolls. And of course it stars heartthrob Ciarán Hinds! Just kidding! It’s our beloved Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe! Yay!
Teens are strongly advised to come dressed in costumes as we’ll be holding a costume competition with prizes between movies!
Refreshments will be served i.e. there’ll be candy. Lots and lots of candy, another great October tradition.
