Update: Horse Collapses and Dies on Top of Woman in Darien

The woman passed out after the horse collapsed on top of her and bystanders had to remove the 1,200 pound animal off of her last Sunday.

A tragic accident was reported at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club in Darien where a horse suddenly collapsed and died and fell on top of rider and owner Laura Sexton, 31 of Greenwich.

Sexton was initially unresponsive and trained personnel at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club lifted the 1,200 pound horse off of her at a June 14 event.

When she regained consciousness, she had no memory of the incident, Darien Police said.

A spokeswoman for Ox Ridge said the cause of death won’t be known for several weeks and that a necropsy is scheduled.

The horse was identified as Jessy Du Breau. Sexton was competing in an event at the club.

The event was the 84th Charity Horse Show at the Hunt Club, and the program raises funds for a non-profit group that provides equine related activities to youths.
