The full Windsor is one of the wider, more formal necktie knots, useful when you're wearing a wide-collar shirt to, say, a royal christening.
(Or, OK, maybe just a wedding.)
In the attached video, Sergio Fernandez, assistant manager at Brooks Brothers, located at 987 Post Rd., Darien, shows you how to tie one.
Fernandez and Robert McGreevy, a sales associate at the store, say there are a few things to keep in mind before you decide whether to opt for a full Windsor when you want to tie one on:
- If you've got a wide face, you may want to wear a shirt with a narrower collar and narrower necktie knot to go along with it (although it's a matter of personal style).
- The full Windsor's more formal, more classical look could also be seen as more old fashioned.
- Neckties come with fabric of varying thicknesses, and a thicker tie will give you a thicker knot. If the knot seems too thick, you could go with a thinner knot, like a half Windsor.
