Hunter Near Darien High Issued Infraction

Darien High School and nursery schools were put into a state of caution after a camouflaged man was observed nearby.

DARIEN, CT—Police issued an infraction to a hunter who was seen near Darien High School Nov. 17.

The hunter from Wilton was issued an infraction for simple trespass after he couldn't produce written permission that he was allowed to hunt in the woods within close proximity to Darien High School, said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron Jr., police spokesman.
The high school and nearby nursery schools were alerted and took precautions after a camouflaged man was seen in the area. Police later determined there was no danger.

The hunter told police he had a long-standing verbal agreement with the property owner to hunt. He possessed a valid hunting license.
More from police:
During a search of the area, officers discovered two tree stands and a deer bait station used for hunting. The stands and the bait station were located approximately 30 feet west of the property line of a Middlesex Rd. residence. This particular area is a very small wooded area that backs up to the property of the Darien High School. The homeowner of the Middlesex Rd. residence indicated that he had not given anyone permission to use the property to hunt deer. It was later determined that this area of the woods was owned by the Town of Darien.
