Info Session Scheduled In Darien On New Kindergarten Cut-Off Date
Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to be eligible for kindergarten.
DARIEN, CT — Dairen Public Schools will hold an information session this month to shed more light on the state's new kindergarten cut-off date.
Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to be eligible for kindergarten, in accordance with Public Act 23-208, Section 1(a). This is a change from the previous cut-off date of Jan. 1.
"We understand that this legislative change may be challenging to navigate, and the district is committed to supporting our families through this transition," said DPS Superintendent Dr. Alan Addley in his most recent weekly letter to families.

Parents with children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2024, are invited to attend an information session on Dec. 14 at 9:30 a.m., in the Board of Education meeting room, 35 Leroy Ave.
Darien's director of elementary education and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction will share information related to teaching and learning in kindergarten, and the timeline and process for exceptions to the kindergarten age requirement.
