Internet Scam Costs Darien Man: PD
The elderly resident fell victim to a number of scams.

DARIEN, CT—A 76-year-old Darien man was the victim a more than $1,000 Internet scam.
The resident got an alert on his computer that said he had to call an 800 number to get help with a virus. The man was then told he needed to pay $939 to fix the problem, which he did, police said.
More recently on Nov. 14 he was contacted by another company that said there was an issue with his IP address and it would cost $449 to fix. He paid that and found out he was double billed for nearly $900.

He was then contacted by another person at the "company" who said they wanted to reimburse him via check for the nearly $900, but he would have to authorize another $449 charge. He realized at that point it was a scam and cancelled his credit card. The next day he learned a company tried to bill him more than $300 for a "firewall license."
The incident was reported to police Nov. 29.

The alleged companies involved were Studio SOS and Web Tech Craft Inc.
