Join The 2023 Darien Citizen's Police Academy

DARIEN, CT — In an effort to foster community relations and educate residents about policing in town, the Darien Police Department is offering a Citizen's Police Academy this year.

The academy brings the police and the community closer together in a setting that offers a sample of police training to each participant. The academy will run training sessions from Feb. 2 to March 16.

Participants receive seven training sessions that will be approximately two hours. They will learn about the many varied functions of law enforcement, and experience some of the highlights of police training and will be exposed to the operations of the department.

Presentations will include the basics of criminal law, search and seizure, patrol tactics, modified firearm training, crime scene processing and an introduction into the department’s Special Operations Unit.

The Citizen’s Police Academy participants are offered an opportunity to network with command staff, patrol officers and training personnel. The sessions will be hosted in a safe, controlled and entertaining training environment.

This program is not an accredited certification course to become a sworn police officer.

In order to apply, applicants must be at least 18 years old, a town of Darien resident and undergo a criminal history check.

Applications must be submitted by Jan. 27, 2023. More information can be found on the Darien Police Department website.
