Jury Awards Family $100k in Darien School Sexual Abuse Case

A jury ruled against a former Darien special education aide who was accused of making sexual advances toward a boy with Down Syndrome.

A 12-year-old boy with Down Syndrome and his parents were awarded $100,000 after a jury ruled against a former Darien aide accused of sexually abusing him.

The alleged incident happened in 2009 and the suit was filed in 2011. The suit alleged that Zachary Hasak made sexual advances toward the boy, who is only identified as John Doe, according to the Connecticut Law Tribune.

The jury found only Hasak liable. Other educators and the school system were named in the suit. The Department of Children and Families originally found probable cause that Hasak abused the child, but he passed a lie detector test and the finding was revsered.
