Juvenile Charged In 2 Darien Burglary Incidents: PD
Police said a 17-year-old juvenile from Norwalk has been charged in two recent burglary incidents that occurred in Darien.

DARIEN, CT — Police said a 17-year-old juvenile from Norwalk turned himself in to police Wednesday for his alleged involvement in two recent burglary incidents in town. Both incidents occurred in December around the holidays, police said.
According to a news release, a resident told police the door of their 2017 Jeep Wrangler, which was parked in the driveway of an Edgewood Road residence, was found ajar the morning of Dec. 26. Further inspection revealed a flashlight, normally kept in the trunk, on the front driver’s seat, however nothing appeared to be missing, police said.
Another vehicle in the driveway was checked and appeared to have been entered. The glove box and center console were both ajar, and a blanket was missing from the trunk area, police said.

On Dec. 31, a Fairfield Avenue resident told an officer she believed someone had entered her garage and stolen her purse. The purse had last been seen on Dec. 24 inside her 2010 Honda Odyssey, which had been parked inside the garage and left unlocked, police said. At that time, the garage bay-door had been locked, but a rear entrance door had been left unlocked.

The complainant stated she went to the vehicle on Dec. 26 and found the sliding side door open and the interior light of the vehicle on, and also noticed her purse was missing. According to police, the complainant said she delayed reporting the incident as she wanted to be sure the purse had not been misplaced.
Various bank/credit cards, $50 in cash and a checkbook were inside the purse. There were no signs of forced entry into the garage or vehicle, police said.
The complainant notified police again on Jan. 1 when she discovered her husband’s laptop was missing. The laptop had been just inside the rear sliding door to the residence on a desk, and the door had been left unlocked, police said.
Detectives from the Darien Police Department have been working closely with surrounding areas experiencing the same increase in residential and motor vehicle burglaries, and two suspects were developed in both cases through these partnerships, police said. In addition to the incidents in Darien, both suspects have been charged by neighboring departments in similar crimes, police said.
Police said the 17-year-old male suspect turned himself in on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in both incidents.
The suspect was processed and charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal trespass, third-degree burglary from a motor vehicle and sixth-degree larceny from a motor vehicle, police said.
The suspect was subsequently released into the custody of a parent. Police said warrants are currently pending for the second suspect.
