Larceny Suspect Arrested After Brief Foot Pursuit: Darien Police

Police said the incident began at the CVS on the Post Road in Darien on the night of June 6.

DARIEN, CT — A New York man accused of shoplifting was arrested last week after a brief foot pursuit, according to Darien police.

The arrestee, who is 23 years old and from Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer, both misdemeanors.

On June 6 at approximately 10:17 p.m., a Darien police officer entered the CVS on the Post Road and saw a man with a Target bag full of items, police said.

Upon making eye contact with the officer, the man "appeared startled and hastily exited the store, triggering the door alarms," police said.

The officer ordered the man to stop, but he fled, causing the officer to chase, police added.

During the pursuit, police said, the man discarded the Target bag, which was later found to contain stolen items valued at $439.

The officer, with the assistance of other responding officers and a K9 unit, eventually located the man hiding in a bush and took him into custody, according to police.

The arrestee is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on June 27.
