Longtime Rivals Battle for Hockey Supremacy
Darien and Fairfield Prep met for the Division I hockey crown Saturday for the second time in three years.

NEW HAVEN, CT - The last time Darien and Fairfield Prep met for the state hockey championship, the Jesuits prevailed in overtime two years ago.
Determined to atone for that disappointing loss, the Blue Wave netted two goals in each of the first two periods and made them count, holding on for a 4-2 victory in the Division I championship game Saturday afternoon at the Ingalls Rink at Yale University.
Jake Kirby and Sam Knowlton tallied in the first period for Darien, then Jay Dickson added a pair of goals in the middle session to establish a 4-1 lead.
Justin Blanchette and Christopher Kral scored the Fairfield Prep goals.
The Jesuits were attempting to tie Hamden for the most championships in state history; Fairfield Prep has won the title on 16 previous occasions.
