DARIEN, CT — A New Jersey man has been arrested after police said he fraudulently purchased a $47,905 Rolex wristwatch using the credit card information from a Darien resident earlier this year.

On Oct. 6, Darien officers took custody of Douglas Cantey, 55, of Paterson, N.J., from the Passaic County Sheriff's Office. Cantey was charged with credit card theft, illegal use of a credit card, first-degree identity theft and first-degree larceny.

Police said a Darien resident reported in April that he received a UPS delivery of an empty Rolex watch box which he did not purchase. The man then found an unauthorized purchase from his bank statement totaling $47,905.

An investigation showed a man purchasing the watch from a store in New York City, police said, citing video surveillance footage.

With the assistance of Detectives in Wayne, N.J., Cantey was identified as a suspect, police said. Through further investigation, which included search warrants and assistance from Federal Probation, investigators determined that Cantey purchased the watch with the victim's information.
