Man Accused Of Stealing Check From USPS Mailbox In Darien: Police
Police said the arrest stems from an incident that occurred in October 2022.

DARIEN, CT — Police said they arrested a 20-year-old man late last month who is accused of stealing a check from a United States Postal Service mailbox in Darien and depositing it into a personal bank account in October 2022.
Amari Washington, of the Bronx, N.Y., turned himself in to Darien police on April 25 on a warrant that charges him with third-degree larceny, third-degree forgery and conspiracy, police said in a news release.
On Oct. 19, 2022, a man reported to police that someone stole his check from the USPS mailbox at the Noroton Heights Post Office, and that the check was altered to a higher amount and made payable to Amari Washington.

Through numerous search warrants, officers determined the check was deposited into an account that belonged to Washington. Police did not say in their news release how much the check was deposited for.
An arrest warrant for Washington was approved in March, police said. Washington was given a court-set bond of $30,000. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.
