Man Accused Of Stealing Over $3K Worth Of Over-The-Counter Meds: Darien Police

Police said the thefts occurred at Walgreens in Darien in October 2022 and March 2023.

DARIEN, CT — A man accused of stealing more than $3,000 worth of over-the-counter medication from a Walgreens in Darien in 2022 and 2023 was arrested on July 19, according to the Darien Police Department.

Rajab Chavis, 43, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was wanted on two active arrest warrants that stemmed from incidents that occurred in Darien in October 2022 and March of this year, police said.

Chavis was taken into custody by Darien police officers at Rikers Island Correctional Facility on July 19 and later charged with third and fourth-degree larceny.

On Oct. 7, 2022, a store manager at Walgreens on Heights Road reported that an unknown man came into the store and stole $2,382 worth of over-the-counter medication, police said, noting that they reviewed video surveillance of the suspect and the suspect vehicle.

A Darien Detective was reviewing similar incidents in the area and was able to identify Chavis as the suspect in the 2022 theft, police said.

An arrest warrant was granted in December 2022.

On March 7, 2023, a store manager at Walgreens reported $1,079 worth of over-the-counter drugs were taken, police said, and Chavis was also identified as the suspect in that incident. Another arrest warrant was approved in April.

Chavis has a total bond of $80,000, police said. He's scheduled to appear in court Aug. 2.
