Man Accused Of Trying To Break Into Cars At Darien Train Station: PD

Police said a 21-year-old man was seen pulling on car door handles in the train station parking lot in the early morning hours of Jan. 4.

DARIEN, CT — A 21-year-old man is being accused of trying to break into cars at the Darien Train Station, police said this week.

Mohammed Batchilly, of Bridgeport, was arrested on Jan. 4 and charged with third-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary, police said. He was held on a $2,500 bond.

Police said on Jan. 4 at around 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the Darien Train Station parking lot on a report of a suspicious person checking car doors.

A witness told police he exited the train with the suspect and saw him pull on "a couple" of car doors, police said.

Based on a description from the witness, officers were able to locate the suspect, later identified as Batchilly, on the Post Road near Day Street, police said.

Batchilly initially denied pulling on car door handles, police said, but train station cameras showed him exiting the train and pulling on three car doors in the parking lot.

Batchilly is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 18.
