Man Accused Of Using Counterfeit Bills In Darien Arrested: Police

Police said the arrestee was part of a "larger counterfeit operation" in Connecticut and New York.

DARIEN, CT — A New York City man accused of using counterfeit bills in Darien in 2022 was arrested on Feb. 18, according to police.

Myles Rowley, 27, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was taken into custody at Rikers Island on an arrest warrant and brought back to Darien where he was charged with sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, first-degree forgery, and conspiracy to commit first-degree forgery, his arrest report notes.

Detectives were able to identify three male suspects, including Rowley, who used counterfeit $20 bills to purchase items, police added.

"Further investigation uncovered additional counterfeit bills passed at other stores in the shopping plaza, linking the suspects to multiple incidents across Connecticut and New York," police noted. "Collaborative efforts with Fairfield Police, [Wappingers] Falls Police in New York, and the Secret Service confirmed the suspects' involvement in a larger counterfeit operation."

Matching counterfeit bills and surveillance footage tied the suspects to cases in Fairfield, Wappingers Falls and Whitehall, N.Y., police said, and an arrest warrant for Rowley was issued by Stamford Superior Court.

Rowley was released on a $50,000 court-set bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on March 7.
