Man Arrested After Severe Assault at Chez Ernie's in Darien: PD

A victim continues to receive medical treatment a month after being hit in the face with a glass, police said.

DARIEN, CT — Police have arrested a man accused of assaulting two victims at Chez Ernie's Cafe on Dec. 18.

A 51-year-old Darien man sustained severe facial injuries and a 51-year-old Southbury man sustained minor injuries, said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron Jr., police spokesman.

The severely injured man was struck in the face with a glass.

"The victim who sustained serious injuries continues to receive medical treatment," Marron said.

The suspect was escorted off the property by employees and left the scene before police arrived.

Police identified Christopher Aikler, 43, of Norwalk as a suspect. He met with police and cooperated, Marron said.

Aikler turned himself in Jan. 11 after learning of a warrant for his arrest.

He was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault and breach of peace. He posted a $15,000 bond and was released.
