DARIEN, CT — A New York man was arrested recently and charged in connection with the 2018 theft of a catalytic converter in Darien, according to police.

Darien police took custody of Jeraud Anthony, 38, of the Bronx, N.Y., from the Albany Correctional Facility on Feb. 12, police said in a crime summary. Anthony was then charged with third-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief and tampering with a motor vehicle.

The arrest stems from an incident that occurred on Sept. 20, 2018. On that date, Darien police responded to the 1100 block of the Post Road on a report of a suspicious person working underneath a parked car, police said.

A woman told police that her catalytic converter had been cut from her car. A witness saw a vehicle with NY plates pull up to the woman's car, and a suspect got underneath and cut the valuable part off, police said.

"A Darien detective made contact with a detective in Yonkers N.Y., who stated that he was also investigating the same suspect vehicle and relayed information where they usually sell the catalytic converters," police said in a crime summary. "Darien detectives responded to a recycling center in the Bronx which confirmed the suspect vehicle came to the day of the theft and one of the occupants provided an identification when making the sale."
