Man Charged In Theft Of Over $35K Worth of Jewelry, Cash: Darien PD

The victims reported the theft of a lock box containing $11,000 in cash and jewelry worth approximately $24,986, Darien police said.

DARIEN, CT — A New York man was arrested last week in connection with the theft of over $35,000 worth of jewelry and cash from a Darien home in March 2023, according to the Darien Police Department.

Jorge Matias Vasquez-Miranda, 27, of Queens, N.Y., was arrested at Stamford Superior Court and charged with first-degree larceny and third-degree burglary, police said.

The CT Department of Corrections shows Vasquez-Miranda was sentenced in February of this year to three years and six months on unrelated burglary charges out of Farmington.

Officers found a shattered rear sliding door and signs of forced entry. The victims reported the theft of a lock box containing $11,000 in cash and jewelry worth approximately $24,986, according to police.

Detectives collected DNA from the scene "from various points," and it was later matched to Vasquez-Miranda, police noted.

Vasquez-Miranda was unable to post a bond due to his current detention status, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Nov. 19.
