Man Seriously Injured In Hit & Run; 22-Year-Old Arrested: Darien PD
Police said a 22-year-old Darien resident was charged with operating under the influence and evading responsibility involving injury.

DARIEN, CT — A 22-year-old Darien resident was arrested on Oct. 16 after police said he was driving under the influence and hit a man on a scooter on the Post Road.
The 22-year-old left the scene but was taken into custody a short time later, police said. He was charged with operating under the influence and evading responsibility involving injury.
On Oct. 16 around 10:30 p.m., a Darien police officer stationed on the Post Road near Garden City Road heard a loud noise nearby, Sgt. Dan Skoumbros of the Darien Police Department said.

The officer then saw a car pass by with a broken passenger side headlight. The officer turned down the Post Road to investigate and saw debris in the roadway, a damaged E-scooter and a man lying on the ground, Skoumbros said.
The man sustained serious injuries and was in and out of consciousness. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to Skoumbros.

While on the scene, firefighters assisting with traffic control alerted officers that they saw a car drive by that matched the description from earlier that night, Skoumbros said.
The car was missing a passenger side mirror, had a defective headlight and the windshield was broken. Officers stopped the car on Old Kings Highway South, Skoumbros said.
The driver of the car, identified as a 22-year-old resident of Pratt Island in Darien, told officers he had just dropped a friend off on Noroton Avenue, Skoumbros said.
Officers contacted the friend, who told police he was away at college, and had just spoken with the arrestee who relayed that he thought he had just hit something, Skoumbros noted.
While speaking with the 22-year-old, officers smelled alcohol on his breath, and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was arrested, and later charged at police headquarters.
The arrestee's blood alcohol content was recorded as .2066 at 11:30 p.m., that night, police said. The legal limit in Connecticut is .08.
The arrestee was released on a $500 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 27.
