Middlesex Medals In World Language Competition

Middlesex Middle School students win 6 medals in Ct World Language Poetry Contest

Competing against 400 other students from 59 different schools in 14 different languages, students from Middlesex Middle School recently won 6 medals at the Connecticut Council of Language Teachers (CT COLT) World Language Poetry Contest.

The CT COLT is non-profit membership organization that promotes the teaching and learning of world languages cultures and has been sponsoring the Poetry Recitation Contest for 33 years.

Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, CT hosted this year’s event which consisted of poetry recitation in 14 languages including American Sign Language (ASL), Ancient Greek, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, English Language Learners (ESOL/ELL), French, German, Modern Greek, Italian, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Middlesex students impressively won six medals at the competition: Riya Krishnan- Spanish 7- 1st Place, Lucas Madariaga- Spanish Native- 1st Place , Nick Derby- Russian Native- 1st Place, Evelyn Sload- Spanish 8- 1st Place, Niko Witkowski- Greek Native- 2nd Place, Conway Zhou- Chinese Native- 3rd Place

The talented Middlesex students who competed and their wonderful World Language Teachers deserve credit for all their hard work and dedication to keeping the cultural spirit alive in the Darien Public School system.
