Middlesex Quiz Bowl Impresses at MIT

The Middlesex Middle School Quiz Bowl Team recently traveled to MIT in Cambridge, MA to compete in their first ever high school tournament. MMS sent one team of five players: Co-Captains Thomas Brown and Folke Bruno (8th graders), 8th grader Evan Tong, and 7th graders Maya Nalawade and John Phipps.

Although the tournament’s field featured some of the best high school teams from New England and New York, Middlesex Middle School’s team performed exceptionally well.  MMS won their first four matches before their streak was stopped by the eventual champions from Lexington.

MMS team’s 4 - 1 record in the preliminary matches, however, was good enough to qualify for the Championship bracket in the playoffs. In the playoffs, the MMS team faced some of the most talented and experienced teams in the whole tournament and finished an impressive 6th out of the 24 teams in the field.

MMS Quiz Bowl coaches Ken Romeo and Barbara Ivey stated that they “could not be more proud of our kids.”
