Middlesex Quiz Bowl Takes 1st and 2nd in NJ Tournament

The Middlesex Middles School Quiz Bowl Teams achieved outstanding success coming in 1st and 2nd place in the Bergen Academies Junior Academic Competition in Hackensack, New Jersey. This highly competitive tournament consisted of 26 teams from all over New Jersey including six teams from Middlesex Middle School.

MMS’ Team A is the first team from Middlesex Middle School to win this difficult tournament, finishing a stellar 9 - 0, while MMS Team B team took 2nd place, finishing 8 - 1. Furthermore, three of MMS competitors finished in the top 10 of individual scorers: 7th graders John Phipps and Jack Roberson, and 8th grader Griffin Samroengraja.

MMS Quiz Bowl coaches Ken Romeo and Barbara Ivey said all of the “MMS teams played extremely well, outperforming everyone’s expectations”. Overall results : MMS A 1st, MMS B 2nd, MMS E 10th, MMS D 11th, MMS C 12th, and MMS F 26th.

MMS’s 6 teams were:

MMS A Team: 8th graders Thomas Brown, Folke Bruno, and Evan Tong, 7th graders Maya Nalawade and John Phipps

MMS B Team: 8th grader Griffin Samroengraja, and 7th graders Colin Adams, Nick Derby, Shriya Desai, Riya Krishnan, and Jack Roberson

MMS C Team: 8th graders Shashank Sangaru, Henry Steinthal, and Olivia Yoo, 7th graders Skyler Bennett and Jackson Leone, and 6th grader Alex Delvecchio

MMS D Team: 8th graders Keiran Daly and Colin Smith, 7th graders Hudson Lazzara, Tyler Roland, and Conway Zhou, and 6th Grader Fin Kehrli

MMS E Team: 8th grader Cole Hanson, 7th graders Monisha Akula, Henry Domenici, and Grace Hand, and 6th grader Max Samroengraja

MMS F Team: 6th graders Will Cherico, Ian Holly, Stephen Kletter, Nick Liu, Iman Onbargi, and Vincent Xu
