DARIEN, CT — Two brothers, who told police they were waiting for a boat to pick them up, were arrested on narcotics and trespassing charges on Aug. 31 after Darien police found them walking on private property on Great Island Road, site of a $120 million, 63 acre home for sale. In their possession were "psychedelic mushrooms," according to police.

The incident began at about 4:20 p.m. when an officer patrolling in the area spotted two men walking on the private, fenced-in property which carries signs that read "Private Property, Trespassers Prosecuted According to Law," and are posted at every entrance throughout.

According to Darien Police Det. James Palmieri, officers patrol the area because the department has received complaints of trespassing and vandalism on the property.

"The officer observed two white males walking on the property, at which point he approached them in his vehicle," wrote Palmieri in a statement. "When asked what they were doing, the males stated they intended on using the private dock located on the property to be picked up by a friend on their friend's boat."

The two identified themselves as Nicholas Allam, 23, of Old Dam Road in Fairfield, and Christopher B. Allam, 26, of Greenwich Street in New York, NY.

"As the officer spoke with the two, he observed that Nick continuously put his hand in and out of his pocket in a nervous fashion," Palmieri wrote. "The officer then observed what he believed to be narcotics in a plastic baggie sticking out of Nick’s pocket. The officer removed the baggie and observed the contents to be psychedelic mushrooms. At this time, Allam was placed into custody."

At that point, Christopher Allam, who also was nervously pulling his hand in and out of his pocket, ignored the officer's commands and took off running toward the dock, according to police. Back up officers arrived and Christopher Allam surrendered to police.

"Believing Christopher had run in order to discard of narcotics, the area was searched but no contraband was found."

Nicholas Allam was charged with possession of hallucinogen and third-degree trespassing, while Christopher Allam was charged with third-degree criminal trespass and interfering with an officer.

Christopher Allam was released at the scene, while Nicholas Allam posted a bond of $250 and was released. They are scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Sept. 10. A booking photo of Christopher Allam, who was issued a misdemeanor summons, was not available.

Palmieri told Patch that a boat never arrived at the dock for the two.

"The department wishes to remind the public that Great Island Road and the surrounding property is owned privately, to include the dock located on the property."

Note: An earlier version of this story erroneously reported Christopher Allam's charges. He was issued a misdemeanor summons charging him with third-degree criminal trespass and interfering with an officer.
