Nearly 40,000 Pounds Of Food Donated In Annual 'Stamp Out Hunger' Drive
The food drive supported individuals and families in Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton.
STAMFORD, CT — The National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive collected nearly 40,000 pounds of nonperishable food across lower Fairfield County on May 10, supporting individuals and families in Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton.
The event, billed as the nation’s largest one-day food drive, also included a virtual component through a partnership with the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. That effort brought in an additional 2,250 pounds of fresh produce to benefit local food pantries, including those run by Person to Person.
“Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has once again demonstrated the power of community spirit and highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing hunger and food insecurity,” said Nancy Coughlin, CEO of Person to Person, in a news release. “The contributions will ensure that thousands of individuals and families in need receive essential support this summer."

More than 180 volunteers contributed approximately 379 hours to help sort and pack donations.
“In a time when rising costs and economic uncertainty are stretching our pantries’ budget thinner than ever, and many families are facing reduced SNAP benefits, we are thankful for the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our volunteers,” said Juri Garone, chief community relations officer at Person to Person, in a news release. “Their compassion is helping us feed hope as well as hunger.”

It is a natural manifestation of our brand purpose of bringing more joy to the heart of families’ home.”
Person to Person also acknowledged longtime volunteer and drive coordinator Jane Yezzi, as well as numerous civic and corporate partners.
