The Darien Planning and Zoning Commission is expected to hold a public hearing on the proposal.

DARIEN, CT — A new urgent care facility is being proposed in Darien, according to documents on file with the town's Planning & Zoning Commission.

Applicant Happy Mountains LLC is seeking a special permit approval and site plan use for an urgent care facility run by Yale New Haven Health at Old Kings Market, 25 Old Kings Highway North.

At approximately 4,400 square feet, the space was formerly occupied by Pet Valu.

Services would include routine physicals, minor illness/allergy treatment, vaccinations, and other screening services for COVID-19 or strep tests, a submitted project narrative states.

The facility would be staffed by three to four physicians, nurse practitioners and administrative personnel, and would be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., submitted documents say.

Walk-in appointments are accepted, but the "vast majority" of patients would make an appointment via the online scheduling portal.

"That portal also reflects the number of patients waiting to be seen at any one time, which assists with patient flow," the project narrative says.

There are no proposed changes to the overall site, landscaping or parking.

All of the proposed work is geared toward "interior fit up," which includes a change of mechanical HVAC units, submitted documents say.

The applicant noted they expect approximately 40 patient visits per day once fully established and operational.

"With the overall center containing 485 parking spaces, the applicant submits that there will be more than sufficient parking for employees and customers," the project narrative notes.

The Darien Planning and Zoning Commission is expected to hold a public hearing on the proposal on Tuesday, July 15.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at town hall. Executive Session is listed as the first agenda item.
