Obituary: Edward Joseph Kelly, 80, Longtime Darien Resident

Edward Joseph Kelly, a long time resident of Darien, CT and later Long Boat Key, FL, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023. He died on his own terms, surrounded by his children. He was proud to say he was 80 years old.

Joe, the son of Bernadette and Edward Kelly, was born on May 8, 1943. One of seven children, Joe grew up in Larchmont, NY. He spent some of his happiest moments sailing on Long Island Sound, winning numerous championships out of Larchmont Yacht Club and later Noroton Yacht Club. If it was only said that he was a good (arguably great) sailor, he would be happy. But Joe was much more than that. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1965, where he was captain of the sailing team. It was here that he met his beloved wife of 49 years, Terry.

Joe worked in the apparel industry and attended Pace University at night where he received his MBA, before building a 40-year career as a financial advisor. He spent his last 20 years with Janney Montgomery Scott, where he earned numerous accolades including being named Janney's Financial Advisor of the Year in 2011. Joe trusted in his faith, loved his family, and held a strong patriotic belief in his country. He always watched the Giants, no matter how tempting it was to turn the channel. He will be remembered as a loyal and trusted friend. And for his sense of humor, his storytelling, and his strength of character. You always knew where you stood with Joe Kelly.
