George A. Swisshelm, a longtime resident of Darien passed away on Thursday April 26, 2018 in Branford, CT. He was born on January 6, 1924 in Baltimore, MD to the late Emmet Swisshelm and Beatrice Johnston Swisshelm. He was 94.
George graduated from William C Bryant High School in Long Island City. He was in the US Army during WWII and then received a BS from Columbia College in 1948. He married Anne Puzak, and they moved to Darien in 1958. George was an Associate Editor at NBC. While working at NBC, George was among 35 employees that were members of the NBC-sponsored U.S. Army Reserve unit that in 1951 was activated to report for active military service during the Korean War. He worked in media publishing for many years, most notably as Associate Editor of Television/Radio Age magazine and Variety. George was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Darien and a very active member of the Darien Senior Center.

George was pre-deceased by his wife Anne in 2008, his daughter Betsey, and two sons Craig and Mark.
A Funeral Service was held at St. Luke’s Chapel in Darien on Thursday, May 3. Burial followed at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien with full military honors.
