'An Old Fashioned Holiday' Event Returns To Darien In December
The much-anticipated outdoor celebration will return to Tilley Pond Park.
DARIEN, CT — Darien's "An Old Fashioned Holiday" event will once again return to Tilley Pond Park this December.
The much-anticipated event, which is free and organized by the Darien Parks & Recreation Department, is scheduled for Dec. 9 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be ice sculptures (Olaf from "Frozen," and one of Santa's reindeer); lights, caroling, ornament and cookie decorating, the chance to write letters to Santa, snacks and hot beverages, and visits from Frosty and one of Santa's reindeer.

New for 2023 will be the Water Lantern Wish Send-Off.
Families may purchase a lantern for $5 online in advance and send their wishes, hopes, and dreams or well wishes to loved ones across the pond during the event.

The lantern send-off will be at approximately 4:30 p.m., with lantern pick-up and all decorating beforehand during the event. Lanterns are on a first-come, first-served basis for online purchase only and will not be refunded.
Attendees can enjoy complimentary festive old fashioned goodies including hot cider, hot cocoa, cider donuts, fresh popcorn and PEZ dispensers available while supplies last.
In an effort to remain sustainable, residents are encouraged to bring a fun 8 oz. mug from home to help reduce paper and food waste during the event.
The event is free and open to all. Free parking will be available at all adjacent commuter parking lots.
In the case of inclement weather, the event will take place on Sunday, Dec. 10, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Tilley Pond.
