Opening Day Looms for Darien High School Teams

DARIEN, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and preseason scrimmages are in full swing, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at Darien High School. For a complete season schedule of Blue Wave varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• field hockey - Thursday, 9/6, vs. Staples, 4 p.m.
• girls volleyball - Thursday, 9/6, at Newtown, 5:30 p.m.
• girls soccer - Friday, 9/7, at Bridgeport Central, 4 p.m.
• girls swimming - Friday, 9/7, at Danbury, 4 p.m.
• football - Friday, 9/7, vs. Ridgefield, 7 p.m.*
• boys soccer - Saturday, 9/8, vs. Bridgeport Central, 2 p.m.
• cross country - Tuesday, 9/11, at Ridgefield, 4 p.m.
