Pair Of Mail Theft Cases Investigated By Darien Police

Both incidents occurred on Feb. 7, according to police.

DARIEN, CT — Two separate incidents of mail theft from Feb. 7 are being investigated by the Darien Police Department, according to officials.

The first one was reported at about 10:20 a.m. from a home on Beach Drive.

"Complainant stated he left an outgoing envelope, containing a check, in his mailbox that morning and raised the mailbox-flag indicating outgoing mail," police said. "At [9:51 a.m.], the complainant observed a small, gray SUV in front of his home at the mailbox. He saw a young, black male exit the SUV from the front passenger’s seat and take the envelope from the mailbox."

No other description was given, and officers called to the area did not find the suspect's vehicle. Prior to calling the police, the victim was able to contact his bank and stop payment on the check, according to officials.

The second incident occurred at a home on Hickory Lane and was reported to police at about 2 p.m.

"Complainant stated that while inside her residence, she observed a gray four-door vehicle pull up in front of her driveway," police said. "A black male got out out of the vehicle, went to her mailbox, and removed something. The complainant stated her mailbox flag had been in the up position, indicating outgoing mail."

Stolen were three outgoing Valentine’s Day cards, but none contained anything of value. No additional description of the suspect was given.
