PD: Two Men Shipping Heroin Into Darien Arrested

There have been 28 confirmed deaths related to heroin overdoses in Fairfield County through July 31 this year.

Two men were arrested and charged with drug offenses following an investigation spanning several weeks.

Police developed leads that a shipment of heroin was coming into the northwest section of town, police said.

Police determined on August 20 that Joshua Sanchez, 24, of Ansonia was coming into town to sell heroin to local residents.

Officers set up surveillance in the 500 block of Hoyt Street near the Merritt Parkway, according to police.

Sanchez was observed traveling on the street around 11 a.m. and police conducted a travel stop near Leeds Lane.

Sanchez was found in possession of 110 bags or wax folds of heroin and $255 in cash. Passenger Roberto Cales, 24, of Seymour was found in possession of 4.9 grams of marijuana.

Sanchez and Cales were charged with possession of narcotics and possession with intent to sell. Cales was also charged with possession of marijuana.
