Woman Assaulted At Spring Grove Cemetery In Darien: Police
A 29-year-old man is accused of assaulting a woman first in Stamford and later at a cemetery in Darien, police said.
DARIEN, CT — A 29-year-old Derby, CT, man was arrested on April 22 after police said he assaulted a woman first in Stamford and later at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
Pablo Monegro was charged in Darien with interfering with an emergency call; threatening; second-degree assault; unlawful restraint; second-degree strangulation; breach of peace; and first-degree reckless endangerment, according to police.
On April 22 shortly after 1 a.m., Darien police officers met a woman in the lobby of police headquarters on a report of an assault.

The woman told police an altercation with Monegro began early in the morning of April 21 while in Stamford, and that she was physically assaulted by Monegro at his mother's home, police noted.
Asst. Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said Monegro later forced the woman into his car near Cove Road in Stamford and threatened, beat and strangled her, and took her cell phone.

"He drives her into the jurisdiction of Darien and a second assault takes place in a cemetery," Conklin said.
Darien police said the woman ran from the car across the street to the police department while Monegro was outside of the vehicle.
Stamford police located Monegro in the area of Seaside Avenue and Cove Road, Conklin said, noting that he was arrested and charged with third-degree assault; disorderly conduct; second-degree unlawful restraint; second-degree strangulation; second-degree threatening; and third-degree larceny.
He was then released to Darien police.
Monegro was initially held in Darien on a $500,000 bond and appeared in Stamford Superior Court on Monday.
Citing police reports that weren't made public, Judge Kevin Randolph on Monday said Monegro told the woman that if she didn't want to be with him, she wouldn't be with anyone, and he threatened to get in a high-speed chase with police "and they'd both die," the Darien Times reported.
Monegro was given a bond of $200,000, which he could not post. The Times said Monegro is scheduled to appear in court on May 30.
