Police: Belligerent Darien Teen Arrested for Mischief
Police arrested an apparently intoxicated 18-year-old who allegedly broke a planter and ran away from an officer.

A Darien teen was arrested on July 18 after he allegedly broke a planter and ran away from police while intoxicated.
An officer was traveling on Mansfield Avenue toward the Post Road at night when he saw a male carrying something in his hands. The male dropped it when he saw the officer and started walking away.

The officer saw that he item was an 8x10 inch paper sign from an area business. He checked nearby and saw that a planter had been pushed over and smashed recently.
The 18-year-old continued to walk away and the officer pursued. The teen took off his t-shirt during the incident, police said.

There was a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. He was allegedly belligerent and said police had no right to stop him. He said he was in the area because an Uber driver dropped him off.
He said he dropped the sign because he didn’t want to get in trouble for littering, police said.
The teen was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal mischief and interfering with police. He was allegedly non-compliant during the booking process and insulted officers.
