Police Investigated Weapon Scare At Darien High School

The incident occurred at the school last week.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien High School student was issued a juvenile summons for breach of peace last week after an image of the student holding what turned out to be a BB gun was distributed at school and caused concern, according to Darien Police Det. James Palmieri.

No threat was made, and no injuries were reported. Additionally, no information about the student was released.

The incident began on March 27 when a school administrator alerted the School Resource Officer that the image had been circulated among students.

"A group of concerned students had brought the image to the attention of a member of the DHS administration," wrote Palmieri in a statement. "Detectives responded to DHS to investigate further. The image in question was determined to be of an identified DHS student holding what appeared to be a firearm. An interview with the student and parent revealed that the firearm was a BB-gun and that the image wasn’t meant to be threatening in nature. It was initially sent to a small number of people and no threat was ever made or implied."

The BB gun was later confiscated by Darien police detectives.
