Probe Continues In Darien 'Porch Pirate' Case

The suspect is accused of stealing a package from the front of a home in Darien on Dec. 1.

DARIEN, CT — The investigation is continuing into the case of a "porch pirate" who stole a package from a Darien home on Saturday morning, Dec. 1, according to Darien Police Det. James Palmieri.

The alleged box bandit, whose image was captured on surveillance video, stole the package at about 10 a.m.

After snatching the package, the suspect drove off in a dark-colored car, which police said might have been a Honda Civic.

"We are still actively investigating this incident, so we aren't releasing any information at this point," Palmieri told Patch.

He added, "We have not received any additional complaints of stolen packages as of today [Dec. 5]."

Anyone with any information about the suspect or the incident is urged to contact the police department at 203-662-5300.

The detective also offers the following tips for residents to avoid falling victim to porch pirates:

  • Require a signature for delivery
  • Have packages delivered to a workplace
  • Have packages held at the carrier facility for pickup
  • Have packages sent to a neighbor's home if they will be present
