Probe Launched Into Cheating Allegations At Darien HS: Report

Some sophomores at the high school reportedly have been accused of sharing test answers.

DARIEN, CT — Allegations of cheating are being investigated at Darien High School, writes the Darien Times.

A special meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday night on the topic, which will include a report about sophomores who are accused of sharing answers to English and World Studies tests.

In a statement to Patch, Board Chairperson Tara Ochman said the following:

"The Board Of Education will convene a special meeting Tues., February 4, 2020 for the purpose of an 'Administrative Report of Recent Test irregularities at Darien High School.' There will be an opportunity for public comment following the report.

"Student discipline is an administrative responsibility in the first instance, and the Board of Education does not receive information, comment, or have a role in deciding such student disciplinary actions. We wish to hear from the community, and we also ask that public comment be mindful that children are involved and refrain referring to any personally identifiable information."

Word of the scandal came to light last week, and parents reportedly were notified about it through a letter. The tests will be re-administered next week.

How many students, if any, will face disciplinary action was not disclosed, but students in confirmed cases of cheating will be held accountable, according to officials.

Tuesday's special meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Darien Public Schools Administrative Offices, 35 Leroy Ave., in the Board Meeting Room. Patch will at the meeting and report on its outcome later tonight.
