Proposed Tax Increase in Darien 2016-17 Town Budget

The Board of Finance passed a version of the spending plan, but the Representative Town Meeting must approve it.

DARIEN, CT - The Board of Finance Thursday approved a proposed town budget of $141.4 million for 2016-17, which carries a tax increase of roughly 2.5 percent.

Under the spending plan, the town's mill rate would rise to $15.73 for every $1,000 in assessed property value, reports Darienite.com.

Included in the proposal is $93.8 million for the Darien School System next year, an increase of almost 3.5 percent above this year's allocation.

The Representative Town Meeting will have final approval on the proposed budget when it votes in a few weeks.
