RTM Districts To Hold Special Meeting On Great Island June 23

DARIEN, CT — As the Darien Representative Town Meeting gears up for a vote on the town's purchase of Great Island, a special meeting has been scheduled for two RTM districts on June 23 at 7 p.m.

Representatives and residents from District II and District IV will meet in the Town Hall auditorium to learn more and discuss the proposed purchase. Great Island is in District II and borders neighborhoods in District IV. The meeting is open to all.

First Selectman Monica McNally and Board of Finance Chair James Palen, as well as members of the Board of Selectmen and finance board will be in attendance to answer questions and provide more information.

Earlier this week, the Board of Selectmanapproved the $103 million purchase, and the Board of Finance took action on bonding and the creation of a special revenue fund and appropriation for the management of the island.

The RTM is expected to vote on the purchase June 27 ahead of a June 28 approval deadline. The town will be able to continue its due diligence on the property until Aug. 6.
