Salaries Per Infection

Earlier this week, the Stamford Advocate ran a front page article dealing with infections contracted by patients while they are in the hospital. The study, conducted by the federal government, placed Stamford next to last among Connecticut hospitals. Norwalk Hospital's rating appeared to be much better. Stamford Hospital is now building a Taj Mahal. Perhaps, Stamford Hospital management should spend more time cleaning up its existing facility before embarking on a Taj Mahal. Also, Stamford Hospital has some very expensive executives. It would be interesting to divide these salaries by the number of infections to arrive at the cost of these executives per infection. Finally, Darienites should remember that most Darien medical emergency patients are taken to Stamford Hospital. It was Stamford Hospital emergency doctors who told the Darien Board of Selectmen that paramedic response time is not really that important. Stamford Hospital does indeed have a quality problem. Stay tuned. Walter Casey.
