Scooters Stolen Then Recovered in Darien
A thief or thieves were trying to tamper with the ignition systems of the two scooters.

DARIEN, CT—Two scooters were reported stolen and then were recovered after a thief tried to tamper with ignition systems.
A $2,500 Honda Ruckus was taken from Stop and Shop on Old Kings Highway North July 12.

The driver took the keys with him when he went into the store and noticed the scooter missing when he left, police said.
An employee said he noticed someone take the scooter five minutes before the operator came out of the store.

The scooter was found behind Burgers Shakes and Fries at 800 Post Road. The plastic shroud that covers the ignition was pulled off and ignition wires were pulled.
Another scooter was stolen from the Darien train station the same day. The victim took the train in the morning and returned at night to find it gone.
It was left unlocked near a bike rack.
The scooter was recovered the following day at Tilly Pond Park after an Eversource employee on a lunch break noticed it in the woods.
Attempts to bypass the ignition were made.
Police continue to investigate.
